Disruptive Diner

Question

Our youngest child is 5 and was adopted as an infant (not a newborn). He has strong food preferences. Our other boys (biological) eat well; they can be picky at times, but we don't fix special dinners for them. I make foods that they have a chance of liking, but that we will enjoy too.

Most nights, our youngest cries at the dinner table because he hates what is being served. Sometimes he refuses to try the food. I don't make him a new dinner, and I don't offer snacks to him after dinner, but this whole process feels disruptive to our time at the dinner table. He's often tired (he gets plenty of sleep but just end of the day tired).

Can you provide a suggestion? I care less that he eats, and more that we stop the tantrums at dinner.
