Responding to opposing viewpoints

Question

A while back my kids had done wrong and so I spanked them, prayed with them, hugged them and told them that I love them. That’s how my parents did with me. A person I am close to said I should never pray with my kids when there is discipline because that might make a negative connection with Jesus. She said that Jesus is all about love. I know that Jesus does love the sinner but I also know that God is a righteous God and will not allow sin to enter heaven. He will one day judge the earth. We pray to get saved because we have done wrong. God will punish the wicked one day. He does love us but He is also just. How should I respond when things like this are said?
