When my now 3-year old son was sleeping in the crib, I'd sleep with him on his twin bed at nap time. Once we got rid of the crib (after he started jumping out), he expected - and still does - us to lie with him until he falls asleep (insert realization of my huge nap time mistake here). He also wakes up in the middle of the night saying he's scared and wants me to sleep with him, which I often do because I'm so tired. I've read your advice about how we should cut the door in half, and I've also read to lie with him if he's expressing being scared until he falls asleep. How do I get him to fall asleep on his own and stay asleep through the night? Or, is this our reality for a while?
