Video Games for 12 year olds.

Question

I just asked a question a few minutes ago and apologize for the follow-up. I read your answer to the newly blended family regarding video game addiction. I think video games should be rarely played. But what am I to do? My 7th grader has a couple of racing games. He doesn't get to play 1/4 what the other boys in the neighborhood play (he's a great swimmer and gets B's in school). I'm a single mom and when I "need a break" my friend who watches the boys for me uses video games a lot to entertain them. When I send him outside the other kids have video games (or worse trash) on their iphones. He thinks I'm mean. The only thing we enjoy doing together is going out to eat and watching movies. I don't have the strength to fight with him all day. Plus, I'm busy. His homework is done (adequately) His chores are done (with a snarly attitude usually)
My question is what do I do about the weekends? I keep hoping for happy family time playing board games but should I settle for eating out and going to movies?
