Question
Our 14 year old daughter is a repeating lier. I have caught her lying since approximately 8 years old. Today she was caught stealing her brother's allowance then lying about it. After 20 minutes she confessed and apologized to her brother. This isn't the first time she has taken other's belongings in our house and lied about. She was grounded for weeks and we took her cellphone for 3-4 weeks. Obviously a more severe consequence is needed, yet I am very concerned her pattern of lying is a symptom of a deeper issue. Your advice is greatly appreciated.
