The Question of Gifts

Question

How do my husband and I handle grandparents (or aunt/uncle) who want to buy our kids things like electronics (Nintendo DS, Tablets), when we really prefer they don't have them? Chances are, the grandparent may go ahead and buy it anyway. We are very restrictive of any screen time to begin with, and we don't want to deal with having to tell the kids no every day they ask for it (and then we are the bad guy!)

I know they are well-intentioned, but our oldest (8) would be as happy if they gave him a gift card to the local book store to spend on books he wants. Suggestions? Thanks in advance.
