Speech therapy generally not needed

Question

My daughter didn't have hardly any words at all when she was 18 months old. I was very worried about it and was referred for testing from my pediatrician. Many states have free programs for children with speech/hearing delays where a therapist comes to your home. (These are often the same speech therapists that also work in the public schools.) I live in AL and we had a great experience with the therapist. She only came every other week, and my daughter just thought they were playing. But I think it's helpful sometimes when they work with someone other than you. (My daughter had a 25% delay by their tests, so the therapy was provided by the state.) Now she's 2 and a half and talking in full sentences...was only in therapy for about 5 months, but I think it really did help. We also did some signing with her (and always used the word with the sign) and I think this helped a lot too...especially to cut down on some of her frustration in communicating.
Hang in there! Hope this helps!
