Challenges to challenging behaviors.

Question

Our 5.5 year old boy consistently whines, cries or throws mild tantrums at disappointments.

We recognize this is inappropriate, but have struggled to have victory in this area. Typically, when he begins whining we tell him to go to his room, and he's more than welcome to come out when he's done. If he doesn't oblige, I walk him or carry him to his room, which sets him off more, but he can usually end his fit quick enough to come out.

What are some ways we can end this once and for all? I do NOT want a 6,7 or 8+ year old whiner, we need to put this to bed!
