Question
Hello, I am concerned about my son. He has delusions of grandeur. He thinks he is going to be some kind of music star, but his skills do not match up to his aspirations. I try to advise him towards practical steps he should take. I've told him to "do what you have to do, so that you can do what you want to do." In other words, "get a job, or find out what it takes to get a music scholarship and work towards that." He is a senior this year. He has opportunity to work in the family business which he has done over the past two summers, but he sees himself somewhere else music industry related. Which I think would be fine if he appeared to be taking steps other than writing his own music which is just not that good. I don't want to tell him that I don't think he is very good. He is not awful, but he needs a lot of work. I get a sense that he resents me for not investing in him. I did put him in guitar lessons for a few years. Actually, I think he blames me for a lot of things.
