Nap time becomes resting time

Question

My 20 month old will not take naps, unless he is nursing on me and falls asleep. Then he wants to only sleep on me, or he wakes up crying. He has done this is full like span. I am exhausted, and burned out.

I've tries three separate times between the age of 7 to 10 months to get him to fall asleep for naps in his crib, and each time I did it for anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks with no improvement. I only would try for 45 minutes. I just gave up, and resigned to holding him.

I'm ready to try again!

How do I get him to take naps in his crib? For how long should I try, before I go and get him out?

Thanks!
