2 yr old Breakfast Dilemmas

Question

I need some advice about breakfast time for my 25 month old daughter. (Incidentally, she is doing great in her toddler bed--I had written in a few days ago about that:-). Each morning my daughter drinks 4-5 oz. of warm milk right when she gets up. She is very tiny and the doctor wants me to continue giving her whole milk, and this is how she takes it best. After milk, she usually eats breakfast about a half hour later. Yesterday she indicated she was ready to eat (she has a speech delay, so she signed "eat"), but then when I put her in her high chair she cried and cried. I tried getting her to eat but she wouldn't, so I got her out. A little while later the scene replayed. It just became a battle until I fed her yogurt (if I give it to her in a bowl, the bowl ends up upside down with yogurt everywhere). Today I decided I wasn't going to battle with her, so I made her eggs and toast and put it on a low table. The minute I stepped out of the room to go to the bathroom, the tray was on the floor and it was everywhere (but she had taken some bites). How do I minimize the battle here and make her more independent without the whole plate of food on the floor? Lunch and dinner are not like this at all, by the way!
