3 yr old Transitions to Pre-School

Question

My son will be 3 years old in a few days. He has been attending the same early learning center since he was 6 weeks old. Starting back in January he has been crying every day at drop off. We give him a kiss goodbye, tell him we will see him in the afternoon then leave (the usual since he was 6 weeks old). The teachers tell us that he stops crying within a few minutes and has a great day all of the time. He has been transitioning to their pre-school class over the last month (first 1 hour a day, then 3 hours a day, and this week full-time) and it has become a huge problem. The crying episodes are often lasting the majority of the time he is in the pre-school class although some days are better than others. He says he likes the class, his teacher, and his friends, and has asked on weekends if he can go to pre-school "today". Today he was so hysterical that he ended up puking and they called me to pick him up. As soon as they told him his father was coming he stopped crying. When he got home he started playing and is obviously not sick. He asked to watch Sesame Street as soon as he got home and I told him that kids who are sent home sick from school and don't behave can not watch TV. I am at a loss on how to handle this. To add to it, the director wants to have a conference to determine what we should do about the problem. I will take any advice you have to offer. Thank you.
