Question

Are sensory issues a real thing or a made up physiological thing? Growing up if I didn’t like the texture of my food or certain clothes I just had to deal with it and eat or wear it anyways. One of my relatives would pitch fits over wearing certain clothes, refused to eat meat, and had tantrums over wearing a seat belt. Now she lives on just bread, pasta, and potatoes because she has let her sensory issues get out of hand and control her. Others of my relations have sensory issues about showers, lights, etc. Some of my family say they have autism and they are different. But I didn’t know if autism is a fancy excuse/made up problem that people believe or if it’s a real thing. Because of so much autism and sensory issues in the family, different members have said that when kids cry about taking a shower it’s a sensory thing or if a kid is loud it is autism. How much of this is true and how much is false propaganda that my family has accepted? What should I as a parent believe and accept?
