The "K-12 to college" track offers few opportunities to try new trades and create things aside from computer programs. School runs all day as a daycare for two working parents, but most employers need young men during the day and parents often don't have the time, skill, or resources to teach this after work. To make matters worse, trade education has been moved from junior high and high school the local JC. Kids can start attending the JC in high school, but then they'd have to attend two schools. When you read biographies of many famous engineers and scientists, they started out in construction or some other trade working with their hands which helped them pay for school or set up experiments. Has anyone re-thought education? Are there any resources on getting teenagers into hands-on creativity or work?
