Question
Question 1: I have an almost 5 1/2 year old daughter - I have noticed that she has become very hyper and loud in the last few weeks - listening seems to be a huge problem as well. The "sassiness" that I have heard so much about from my friends started a few months ago - and she will say things to me that I actually find myself tongue tide on how or what to say to correct her. I notice that she will apologize sometimes after she acts ugly - because deep down she knows that what comes out of her mouth should not be. How do I go about correcting all of this - my husband thinks time out for 10 minutes - but I just don't think that phases her…
We just got back from a vacation with another family that have 2 girls close in age to my daughter - they all played very well together on the most part but I did hear her constantly wanting to "race" to see who would be first - everything seemed to be a competition - is this normal for this age?
There are a few other hiccups but we will start with these.
Thank you!
Question 2: I feel like I am constantly correcting her - and she always has a grin on her face - so it's like she is doing it for a reacting… however - she needs to be corrected but it is also extremely exhausting to be around her right now. I feel like I spend plenty of time with her so I don't think that is the problem.
She always is asking us to repeat ourselves - like she doesn't hear us or that she doesn't understand - but we know that she does - but having to repeat and repeat and trying to stay calm to show that it isn't bothering us is hard because I know she is doing it on purpose. I am just trying to figure out what is causing all of this and if this is normal 5 1/2 year old behavior…
