Do NOT Leave me!

Question

Hello! My son is almost 4. We started to see separation anxiety in him when he was about 18 months old. He goes to preschool 1/2 day during the school year but, for the most part, I am home with the kids during the week. The only places I drop him off are the church nursery and the gym maybe 2-3 times a week for a hour or so. Not every single time, but VERY frequently, he will cry and scream about being dropped off. The workers tell us he usually calms down but then he starts crying again when we pick him up. His 2 1/2 year old sister does not seem to have this problem but I would consider her the more "social" and "outgoing" of the two. He also cries/screams for about an hour before we even leave to go to these places saying things like "I don't like church/the gym and I don't want to go to church/the gym." Quite frankly, it is getting old and I am sure the childcare workers at church and the gym grow weary of it too. NEVER once have his father and I given in to his little "show". Church is a priority and we go every week. We always drop him off, screaming or not. We are very casual about leaving him too, trying not to make a big deal of it. I thought he would have grown out of this phase by now. Any suggestions? Thanks!
