My 11 year old daughter wakes me up almost nightly between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m. by poking me sharply with her fingers and proceeds to either tell me she is scared (she says she wakes and doesn't want to be alone) or her ear hurts and just the other night woke me abruptly to say "Never mind"... She tends to be a bit anxious and nervous in daily life of things (i.e. if I have to go into pay for gas will not stay in car on her own, won't stay at home in our safe neighborhood if I have to run out for a few minutes).
I have a very hard time falling back asleep and feel the results in the daytime. When she wakes me I try to be kind and tell her to not wake me up so roughly & in the daytime explain that my lack of sleep makes me cranky and tired. I have tried to console her as I understand it's tough being scared when you're young...she is sharp and short with me (in the daytime as well)...I have tried to take things away from her for waking me, ask her at bedtime to not wake me but still it goes on, not to mention her father is awakened by these actions as well. I do not know what to do and I don't want her to feel like she is alone or not cared for...help!
