Question
8 year old daughter has not been responsible with completing chores and following directions. On the morning of her soccer game, she again failed to follow some relatively simple directions. As she was dressed for soccer, I let her get in the car and I drove her to the game. On the way, she was shocked when I calmly told her she would not be playing in the game today and that when we arrived, she would get out of the car and let her coach know that she was unable to play in the game because she had not followed her parent's directions at home and therefore had lost the privilege of playing. Obviously, she didn't want to do this, and so I told her either she did it or she would miss the remainder of the soccer season. She then complied, and we went home where she sulked a good bit before ultimately realizing that it was better to follow directions. Too harsh?
