Proper punishment

Question

My about to turn nine year old daughter received a check from her grandmother at Christmas for $1,000 to be used for a college savings account. I didn't think we should tell her the amount, but my husband did with instructions to thank "Granny" but not tell anyone about the check. While helping her with her hair this morning before school, she told me she told some of her friends because she "forgot". I told her that was 1) disobeying her father and 2) not a good way to keep friends as it just amounted to bragging. I really feel like she should be punished for this. My husband says "Oh, kids will do that", but I feel it needs to be addressed. What do you suggest?
