I understand your position on not forcing piano practice and the free reign of kids to figure out for themselves what hobbies they have. But I'm in the same boat - we bought the piano and we're paying for lessons - but we shouldn't force practice? My parents let me quit music and I regret it to this day. After a point, the hobby (sports, music) isn't just fun, it's hard work.
