Missed Opportunity

Question

Through this site I feel like you've personally worked with our family through the years & I thank you for that.
So here is my current question. We just had our last day of soccer & as we're walking to the car the director runs over stops me & introduces herself. She then says "Your son & one other boy were disrespectful to the teenage male coach so we had to get an adult to coach the team instead. So if you want your son to play in the spring you'll have to coach."
I was on another field for my younger son's games..per the homeschooling leagues rules, so I can't speak to my older son's behavior. I trust the word of the adult of course. However, they never told me there was a problem in all the 9 weeks, so I could have handled it in a timely manner. My teachable moment is gone, I never witnessed the behavior & it wasn't behavior from today. It was a generalization of the season...geez wished they said something earlier so I could have handled it immediately.
Any suggestions on how to handle this so far after the fact? I should mention the disrespect was being inattentive & not paying attention to coach, talking while coach is talking & jumping around. No name calling or anything like that.
I did tell son that he could not play in the spring. That he would do his school work on the sidelines while his brother played. I'm sure that's not enough..any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
