Talking to children about strangers

Question

My daughter is 3. I was wondering what a good age would be to discuss strangers with her and how to go about doing it. At this point, I'm not sure if she'd even understand what I'm talking about. And I don't want to scare her, either. On the other hand, at some point, she will have to realize that not everyone in the world is our friend - and at this point, that's what she seems to think. I know I can find advice about this in many places online and in books, but I'd appreciate your sensible advice about this, so that I can approach the subject in a sensible way when the time is right. Thanks!
