Husband disagrees on Early learning...

Question

My husband recently had an argument in which he made it clear to me that he thinks our children (currently almost 3 and 11 months) should be taught to read prior to being in kindergarten. He was "flabberghasted" (his words) that I did not have the same desire. I didn't bring you up or any research, I just took the "kids should be kids" approach. He just thinks that since we both were taught to read before school, they should. He's not one to read parenting books, but how do I go about convincing him that this is not a good idea and could even be detrimental? I told him the only way I would agree was if my children came to me and told me to teach them any of this stuff. He "could not believe we were even having this conversation." Any thoughts?
