Respect for elders - Mr. John

Question

My kids call people "Miss first name or Mr. first name about 70% of the time. I decided to start expecting this from my kids when friends of mine started expecting it of their kids after visiting relatives down south. Before that point I always liked the idea of having them refer to people as Mr. and Mrs. but was so sure that I would not have been able to stick with the Miss/Mr. Last name thing that I didn't even try. The "Respect for elders" question made me realize that I have slowly been slipping in not expecting the Miss/Mr. first name from my children. I find it very challenging sticking with it because of how strange it sounds to so many people, especially as the kids are getting older. Help and thanks
