Question
We are potty training our 23 month old son. We started out using the N75 method and he only had major accidents for the first few days. After that he would pee a little in his underwear and either he would tell us he needed to go potty, or I would see the wet spot and would ask him if he needed to go and he would say yes. We also instituted the potty bell and every time we put him on the potty he would go. We are 6 weeks in and he still will not tell us when he has to go potty. He has told us a few times, before going in his underwear, but no more than 5. We are not sure where to go from here. We have tried catching him when he just begins to go and putting him on the potty, letting him come to us first regardless of how soiled he is, and putting him on the potty every hour or so using the potty bell. We even tried using a time-out punishment if he went to the potty in his pants because we felt that he knew when he had to go he just did not want to tell us and go to the potty. It did not work, he seemed to even ask for the time-out after messing his underpants even though he would throw a fit while sitting in time-out. It just doesn't seem to be clicking with him. He knows that pee and poop goes in the potty, but I can't get him to understand that he simply cannot pee and poop in his underwear and that he must tell mommy or daddy before he has to go. I am ready to put him back in diapers because I don't know what else to do. What should we do from this point on?
