Punishment Can Wait

What consequence would you suggest when punishing a child when the child's main activities are reading worthwhile books and listening to recordings of educational-religious stories and songs. I would be loath to take these things away from him since they are vital components of his education. He is not that interested or attached to toys, money or food treats and is a smart, thinking sort of boy. Do you have an alternative approach for a child like this?

Disciplining for: 1) (rarely) taking treats without permission, 2) leading us to believe he took care of something when he didn't, 3) not completing a list of chores, 4) saying he didn't do something when he did, i.e. lying.

Age: between 8 and12
