Teenager : History of depression

Question

Our 15-year-old daughter told us that she has been feeling depressed over the past 6 months and admitted she cut herself once. However, she shows no outward symptoms of depression, such as withdrawing, change of eating habits or attitude, and seems to be an otherwise happy person. She is involved in band and dance and has several close friends. There is a family history of depression and bipolar disorder on both sides of the family. She also has a new half sibling. She said she fakes being happy around us and thinks she is bipolar. Do we chalk this up to normal teen angst or should we seek therapy for her?
