Teenager : Academic Challenges

Question

Our former straight-A student enrolled in an advanced high school magnet program. Instead of rising to the challenge and studying more, she got overwhelmed and did not give it her all. When her interim grades reflected that, I met with teachers and was disappointed to find there were extra credit opportunities and study sessions available when she told us there were none. We made her do both and got more involved than we planned to, following through with teachers and checking on her progress. What do you think of having a contract this year that clearly spells out expectations? If so, do we list consequences?
