8 YEAR OLD SLOB

Question

My 9 year old daughter is a slob. She leaves cabinets open, clothes all over the floor, toys everywhere, items from the fridge on the counter, etc. She is otherwise a pleasant and obedient, respectful child who gets along well with others. We correct and remind her constantly, but her mess is causing problems and inconvenience for the rest of the family. Recently I cleaned her room for her because I was sick of the mess and I removed everything that I had to clean up from her room. I gave her a warning and time to clean it herself beforehand. I put everything in a big storage tote and put it in another room and told her she can earn it back when she starts keeping her room clean. Instead, she has continued leaving new things messy and I’m continuously removing more things from her room. How can I help her learn from this? We are so frustrated that she doesn’t care about taking care of her things. This is not normal child clutter, but her room looking like a war zone.
