Call the "Doctor" for Damsel in Distress

Question

Our 7 yo daughter will act like a damsel in distress—getting fake hurt or acting like she can’t do something. My husband and I ignore it, or nonchalantly guide her to her room to ‘rest’. It has worked and she doesn’t do it around us anymore.

The problem is she still does this with other adults. A few examples:
1. In gymnastics, it was like she couldn’t even walk, so I took her out of it because I wasn’t going to waste my money for her to do that.
2. At her 2x a week Bible school, her teacher told me I need to work with her on puzzles because she is incapable of doing them—but my daughter can do 100-piece puzzles just fine at home by herself.
3. Around loving, indulgent Grandma it is guaranteed she will get hurt.
4. She was standing with her bicycle (not even moving), but then fell in front of some strangers so they could help her, but she was fine.

Will this just go away on its own, or do we need to get involved?
