Anger Mismanagement

Question

My 11.5 year old, quite academic son, is very respectful outside home and loved by his teachers. In past few years he is lacking anger management and becomes disrespectful (especially with mom) when he doesn't get what he wants right away. He also doesn't follow request for chores or other things in the 1st or 2nd time which makes him disobedient. He tries to be funny at home and often ends up being disrespectful.
He recently, in a moment of anger said he 'hates me and wishes I was not his mother', which is the most extreme of his outbursts. When he's in the right state of mind, he admits to his anger issue and acknowledges he has a problem. In anger he screams, bangs the door and says bad words as well. Upon banning him from everything he loves including TV, seeing friends (since 10 days), he is becoming more angry and disrespectful to me. I am trying hard to not give up and let him face strong consequences for his actions after having read, The Well Behaved Child. Please HELP!
