Little Runaway

Question

Our 11 yr old son has been spending a lot of time in room due to behavior and losing tickets. He decided yesterday after losing his tickets that he had enough and was running away. He has said this before and I didn’t make a big deal of it and he was back in a couple of minutes. However this time he made choice to wander to a person in the neighborhoods house (they didn’t know him) and knock on door asking “which way is north?” And then took off and they called the police. Apparently when he saw the police and they tried to catch him he started running and the game begin...about 10 police cars later, a canine unit and a helicopter, not to mention whole neighborhood involved, they finally caught him and put him in their car where I came and got him. He was visibly very upset. I didn’t say much but took him home and put him in room. He apologized and didn’t say much rest of evening. How would you handle this situation?
