At what age is it appropriate to do 2 sets of tickets? One for sibling conflict and one for personal? How long should I wait to start there personal ones? We just started sibling conflict about a month ago when my youngest turned 3 and a half?
Thank you for submitting your question.
I just want to make sure you understand an aspect of the ticket system. It isn’t a set of tickets for each target behavior. It is one set of ticket regardless of how many target behaviors. So, if you started with sibling conflict as your first target behavior with five tickets. When you are ready to add your second target behavior you STILL have five tickets.
In most cases with children 3, 4 or 5 year olds start with one target behavior and five tickets. When that initial misbehavior is pretty well under control for at least a week, your second target behavior can be added to the list. When that is under control, you can add a third. Be reminded that you shouldn’t let your frustration and impatience get the better of you. Don’t add to many target behaviors at once with a child younger than 5. When your child has managed to keep his misbehaviors under control for three to four weeks, you can see how your child will do off the program. Always, know you can reinstate it at any time.
Keep at it!
