When Politics Enters Your Child's Education

Question

I was shocked and surprised to find out that next week our kids Elementary School a Catholic School will be celebrating Pride week all week. Nothing was done to inform the parents.. I was I am really upset about this because I feel like parents should be told. I have a 4 years old and a 9 years old going to school there. I figured our kids would be safe at a Catholic School setting from these from these types of issues. Especially at such a young age. My kids are too young to be learning about sex let alone the lgbtq lifestyle. The principal told me they would just be drawing rainbows and doing these activities all week. I asked her so what if the child comes back and asks what is pride week. What are we celebrating exactly? She was a little flabbergasted and didn't have much to say about it. I feel sorry for her because she's put in a very bad situation. I have decided not to let my girls go to school next week. Any advice? Am I being a bigot? I just think I don't want to confuse my daughter's at such a young age about such confusing topics that I'm trying to wrap my head around?
