Stay the course - potty training

Question

I am currently potty training my youngest, almost 19 months. I have purchased John's books on the terrible 2s and potty training and I have been trying to follow all the advice. It has been a week and a half and he has gone on the potty a few times only when I catch him mid-stream. He has however pooped on the potty all but a couple times. I am careful with the way I talk to him, using alpha speech and not asking him if he has to go. I have him sectioned off in the play room with the potty in the same room. I have resorted to no underwear most of the time. He only has a diaper on at night. I understand it takes time but he will barely sit on the potty more than a few seconds most time. I am also using the potty bell for anywhere from 30-60 minutes. Is there anything else I can do? I know it can take a while but it seems we have gone on for a long time and seems we are still close to square one. Any suggestions?
