Nipping his misbehavior in the Bud

Question

Our 18 month old has gone from being an easy to child to a handful. All of his behavior seems normal, but more extreme than our older boys. He also seems unresponsive to correction. Some of these behaviors include climbing on our breakfast table, throwing tantrums, especially over food, hitting his siblings, pulling other children by their clothes and throwing toys or other objects when he is angry.
I am rereading Making the Terrible Two’s Terrific again. It is helpful but also seems geared at 2 year olds. While I think my 18 month old does understand a lot, he is not very verbal. We have tried spankings, placing him in a corner of the room to have a temper tantrum and redirecting. We would appreciate any additional recommendation on thriving during this stage.
