Food for Thought: To Obey or not To Obey--That is the Contention

Question

I have a 2.5 year old who isn't speaking yet but understands the word "no". She has developed a habit of throwing food. This is not something she does occasionally, but for the majority of every meal she receives.

So far, we have tried excusing her from the table after throwing food. This did not change her behavior.

We have also tried taking away her ability to throw the food by feeding her ourselves, even though she can feed herself. This did not work, because she will just swat the spoon and knock the food onto the floor.

Then we tried one spank on the hand with which she threw the food. This measure does not seem to phase her, and she basically ignores it.

She is a strong-willed child, and we are having difficulty resolving this behavior.
