Toilet training dilemma

Question

My daughter has started toilet training her 18 month old daughter using the naked and 75 method. I am her grandmother and watch her during the day 4 days a week. It has only been a little over a week since we started, but she doesn't seem too crazy about the idea. She isn't really talking yet, but seems to understand everything we say and imitates our actions and daily routines.
Today we had a small success-she finished peeing in the potty after starting to pee on the floor. She looks sad when we say that it is time to go on the potty.
Just wondering if this is typical and how long does it take to really start seeing success more than accidents. I know we shouldn't hover but she seems to like us to read to her
when she sits on her potty.
Any tips or advice if we are doing this wrong are appreciated.
