Wild Child

Question

We recently started he ticket system with our 3 and 5 year old children. It has worked well with our 5 year old but our three year old has lost all his tickets multiple times. Often, the loss of the last ticket and the subsequent punishment of going to his room results in a physical battle. He will not go on his own, and when carried, he reacts like a wild animal. We have tried restraining him but usually cannot (my husband can, I cannot). We have tried spanking but this is also a battle and seems to make him more angry. We don’t want to engage in a physical battle with our child to get him to go to his room, but we are struggling with how to enact this punishment. He eventually calms down, so would it be better to let him have his tantrum before ushering him to his room?
