To Adopt or Not Adopt

Question

Hello,

We are considering adopting a child who was addicted to methamphetamine in the womb. He also was exposed to marijuana and cigarettes. We have compassion for him, and we know it is not his fault. Christ can overcome anything, and we are planning to adopt him no matter what.

Our question is: I always hear that "drug babies" have behavioral issues. What do you think the extent of behavioral issues is in this type of child? How are their "behavioral issues" different than children who were not drug exposed?

I'm of the opinion that each child is different and personalities are a part of "behavioral issues". Are they just like other kids, but maybe since they are treated differently they act out more? Or does the drug exposure significantly affect them for the rest of their lives?

Thank you.
