Question
My 5 year old son has started throwing tantrums again out of nowhere. For some of them he will throw himself on the floor. He did this during a playdate yesterday. It was so embarrassing for both of us. I will give him a simple instruction like, “Go put your shoes on. It’s time for us to leave.” He will immediately start saying, “No, no, no. Please don’t.” And then the tantrum will begin. I have no idea where this came from. I thought we were past this stage. I have begun to punish him for the tantrum because I think his behavior is absolutely unacceptable. I’m at the end of my rope. How can I get him to obey my instructions without having a tantrum?
