Patience in Potty Training

Question

Hi.

We are 8 days into toilet training our 31.5m old boy. Its been going well in that he is able to take himself to the potty and pee / poo when he needs to with and, frequently without prompting. We have not had to use the potty bell for the last few days and its been good.

Two things…

1. He still has accidents on the poo front in that he has soiled his underpants before he even sits on the loo and then won't sit there to finish the job… meaning he ends up soiling underpants (thin cotton as recommended) 2-3 times before all the poo for that time is out. Is there anything we can do to help him understand that he needs to sit on the loo when the urge starts and not when he's already doing it?

and

2. He is still having day sleeps and despite everything we try he will wake up wet. He sleeps in only thin cotton underpants. His day sleeps are much shorter now on account of this as he pees the bed and this wakes him up and then he won't fall back asleep. This then makes him irritable for the last part of the day as he is tired.

Is there anything we can do to help get the day sleep to be a "dry" one?

Thanks
Adrian
