Getting your child out of your bed

Question

We have a 3.5 year old that is struggling with sleep habits. He was very sick for a few months and we let him sleep in our bed. Now we want him out of our bed! He has no trouble going to sleep in his bed. But typically wakes up around 11 and comes in our room crying and wants to sleep in our bed. If we put him back in his bed it becomes an every hour on the hour cycle. He is afraid of the dark and sometimes has nigtmares. He just comes unglued at the suggestion of getting back in his bed. Not in a hysterical way but in a devistated way. We are all tired at this point! How do we get him out of our bed?
