Question
My husband and I are struggling with finding the right disciplinary action for our 3 year old daughter. She has many meltdowns and tests our authority on a regular basis. We have found that taking away things is of no use and she simply does not care about anything enough (books at bedtime, paci's at bedtime, stuffed animals, toys, tv, outside activities... you name it we have tried it). We have also used time out with a timer and that also does not work for her. Lately, I have been locking her in her room for bad behavior and she kicks and screams and beats on the door continuously despite our efforts of telling her she may come out when she calms down and serves the appropriate time for the crime. Often the screaming lasts for up to an hour. We are at out witts end attempting to find the right the right method for her. Help!
