Questions about the Ticket System

Question

A couple of months ago, we started the ticket system on our 5 year old son. It has worked relatively well. There are 2 target behaviors: whining and not listening when he is asked to do something. Yesterday he lost his 3 tickets at about 4:45 pm and spent the rest of the day in his room with the exception of dinnertime, plus was put in bed early. Here is my question. He has started talking back to us. Is this an appropriate behavior to add to the list? Or is it too "general" such that he wouldn't understand what we mean (like being disrespectful)? Also, when I add a behavior to the list, do I stick with the 3 tickets or add 1 or 2 tickets back? And finally, when I take a ticket for, say, not listening, and he talks back, do I take another one? Or just ignore and continue with the regular procedure of putting him in time out, etc.? Thank you for your guidance on this!
