I said he had tried. Having been a foster parent for many years, I am well aware of the need to be vigilant. Most of my adopted children entered my home with the mindset that behavior was just fine, as long as you could get away with it. And we have had to deal with things along the way. However, most have learned to stop. But it makes it very easy for them to be willing participants until they get it in their heads that it is not okay. In this instance, the boy has been here several years and still does not think it is not okay. Of course, with the current public pressure, he would seem to be on track with that. But not with me. And the authorities are aware of our struggles and are supportive as we try to make a better path visible. He has been on a waiting list for a mental evaluation for nearly a year. His doctor is checking into the hold up. Meantime, after a strong talk with the sheriff and the school authorities, he is the picture of wonderful. Spent the morning chopping firewood.
