Achieving in School

Question

HI! In John's book "Fail-Safe Formula for Helping Your Child Success in School" he mentions a weekly high school report card in chapter 4. He also mentions that you should never require more than a B in each class, even if the child is capable of A's. My son if the type of child who does the bare minimum of what is expected of him. If I require a B or higher, he will do what he needs to do to get that B and no more. My concern is that he is capable of much more. My thought is to say "You need to get more A's than B's on your next report card." Is this a bad idea or should I just stick with requiring a minimum of a B even though if he put more effort he could get at least a few A's? Thanks for your suggestions.
