2.5 Year Old Tantrum Troubles

Question

Hi!

I'll be quick and to the point. Our 2.5 year old daughter has started throwing tantrums a couple of months ago, and they have been getting more intense and more frequent. She has an older brother and his tantrum phase was very short lived, as a result we find ourselves at a loss with her. We've tried time outs or putting her in her room, and all such variations, but I physically cannot detach her from myself at those times, long enough to show her what we're going to do about her tantrum, not to mention saying anything to her over her screaming/crying. Also, her tantrums typically happen outside the home and it's not possible to just avoid taking her anywhere while she's going through this phase. She's also incredibly strong and does what we call "the floppy fish move" where she's next to impossible to pick up, especially for me because of a shoulder injury. I guess I'm looking for advice on ways to discipline her, mainly so as to teach her this is not ok and will not be tolerated. I've read some of the posts on here about tantrums, and I've read the terrible twos book, but nothing applies to her. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Ps. I should mention that she's not talking all that much yet so it's not really possible to discuss things of this nature with her.
