Question
Our 3.5 year old son cries and completely melts down when he is sick or hurt. He mostly only does this at home, and it is a scream and cry at the top of his lungs as if he has no control. We have seen him have control though and know he does not have to scream as he does. When this first started happening, I would rush over thinking he was going to be very seriously injured, (as he used to not cry at all over physical injuries) and find a small scrape he never used to even cry at all about. He won't let us calm him down, just screams more. He no longer throws fits when he doesn't get his way, but it's like he is throwing a huge fit over the littlest scrape. We have started to put him in his room till he can calm down and just leave him alone, but sometimes it still takes a long time for him to quiet down. I have told him it's ok to cry when he's hurt, but quietly please. We are not the coddling type and have always just brushed our kids off and kept going. Anything else to suggest to quiet down his over dramatic wails?? Thanks!
