Question
I desperately need help with my almost seven year old girl who will not listen. Recent example- this morning she was told to get out of bed and she didn’t, then the tv (in our room, not hers) was shut off and then she turned it back on. She almost never listens on the first time, she has a very defiant personality. She does listen at school and church, but sometimes not on the first time because she is distracted. She is extremely emotional (but again really only cries at home or around family members) and has outbursts where I say she needs to get her uglies out (that’s the only way I can describe it). I also have a 4 ½ year old that IS compliant by nature, which creates sibling conflict and causes my husband to favor the youngest because every little thing is not a struggle with her. I tell you all of this to give you an idea of the situation, but my first question I need help with is training her to listen. She is a tough nut to crack! She responds to praise and rewards but I just don’t know how to get started.
